ZIMBABWEAN representatives in the Caf Confederation Cup picked up a vital away goal in their defeat to Angolan side Recreativo do Libolo in the first round first leg at Estadio Municipal de Calulo in Calulo, Angola yesterday.

Skipper Liberty Chakoroma scored the all important away goal in between a brace by Brazilian striker, Fabricio Simoes. The Brazilian gave the Angolan side the lead before Chakoroma equalised for Ngezi but the Zimbabweans could not hold on as Simoes fired his second past Nelson Chadya.

With the crucial away goal, Madamburo should, however, hold the edge going into the second leg in Harare on Saturday as a one nil win is enough to see them through to the play-off round. In the next stage, the 16 teams that made it past the first round will be mixed with the same number of those that dropped at the same stage in the Champions’ League.

The Tonderai Ndiraya coached Ngezi qualified for continental football after winning the Chibuku Super Cup in their maiden season in the Premier Soccer League. Recreativo do Libolo, four time league champions in their country booked their place in the Caf Confederation Cup after winning the Angola Cup.
