NGEZI Platinum Stars have moved with speed to plug the hole created by the departure of utility man, Gerald Takwara, by capturing Ghanaian defender Derrick Bonnah.
The Mhondoro-based side are also close to completing the signing of midfielder Last Jesi.
Both players will be at the club for the next two years.
Bonnah is a product of the Vision Explorers Soccer Academy and was tipped for greatness in Ghanaian football.
He was on the books of Israel side, Hapel Haifa Youth team, six years ago.
The 24-year-old can play as a central defender as well as a holding midfielder and comes as a direct replacement for Takwara, who has joined South African Premiership side Chippa United.
Bonnah is now waiting for his work permit to fly into the country and start training with coach Rodwell Dhlakama’s charges.
While Bonna’s deal is done, Ngezi are putting the final touches to bring Jesi on board.
Since his deal with Sudanese side Al Hilal was terminated three months ago, Jesi has been holding talks with different clubs as he looks for suitors .
Ngezi Platinum secretary-general, Cloete Munjoma, yesterday confirmed Bonnah’s deal and revealed the team were now tying some loose ends with Jesi.
“We have signed the Ghanaian, we are only waiting for his work permit so that he flies in and join the team at training,” said Munjoma.
“He comes in as a replacement for Takwara who left some two months ago. Takwara was a key figure in our team and we believe Bonnah will be an able replacement.
“Bonnah is a very good player and we hope that he will add depth and options, for the technical team.
“Last Jesi, we are at an advanced stage to secure him. We have done most of the work and we are only tying up the loose ends, to complete the process.
“We hope the two will come and add value for the team.”
Ngezi Platinum were in good form in the Chibuku Super Cup before the tournament was halted in June due to a spike in the Covid-19 cases in the country.
They led Group 4 standings, which is based in Mandava, after they collected maximum points, in the first round.
FC Platinum, Triangle and Whawha are in the same group.
The tournament bounces back at the end of this month, and Dhlakama will be hoping his new signings will be available.
Bonnah will have to shrug off competition from central defenders, Polite Moyo and Kudzi Chigwida, as well as holding midfielders Marvellous Mukumba and Devon Chafa.
