Development Aid from People to People, a local NGO, says it will continue to empower the youth in Zimbabwe and around the world through training programmes to prevent them from engaging criminal activities. Speaking during a graduation ceremony of 106 students at the Frontline Institute in Bindura last week, DAPP director, Mr David Murefu said youth training was critical in preventing them from engaging in criminal activities.
He said it was worrying that due to illiteracy, poverty and unemployment, youths were getting involved in criminal activities like drug abuse and trafficking, robbery and rape in the hope that this would improve their lives.
The graduands, who were drawn from 11 African countries, underwent a basic and advanced project management course.
DAPP remains committed to the empowerment of young people through various training initiatives.
“It is in this regard that we will continuously mobilise youths around the world, through our training programmes,” Mr Murefu said.
This is in line with our development work.
The Frontline Institute, he said, had trained many young people from various countries, empowering them to fight unemployment, drug abuse and HIV and Aids.
Mr Murefu said his organisation had managed to strengthen linkages with other youth groups and organisations across the world to share experiences, information and forge common strategies to tackle unemployment, crime and other social problems.
