CLIVE Nguru Junior is confident he will do well at the SeedCo Malawi Golf Championships in Lilongwe.
He is one of several local professional golfers who will tee off in the annual tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club this morning.
Most of the local players last took to the course at the Mashwede Classic Golf Championship back in October.
“I am happy with the partnership I have with Mashwede Holdings, as it is every player’s wish to play at the highest level and compete,” said Nguru.
“I hope for the best as it is everyone’s hope to make the cut and even win such a big tournament. The tournament will be tough but after the coming on board of my sponsor Alexander “Dr Mash” Mashamhanda and his son Tendai, my game has improved immensely.
“My target is to make the cut and make the best out of my performance. The field will be tough with some world-class players, but I have played most of them at some point. I know golf is a game of days and form but I have prepared well.”
The former Falcon Golf club member, who is now affiliated to Chapman, is not the only player benefiting from Mashwede Holdings’ goodwill.
With a total of 45 professional players registered for the tourney and over 200 amateurs expected to take part, Nguru and other local players have high chances of making it to the money zone.
“The former leading Zimbabwean amateur golfer, Nguru Jnr, has travelled the lengths and breaths of the sport and says he is in the right frame of mind and is looking forward to making the cut.
“I have always been practising and I hope to do my best.”
