SUNGURA artiste, Mark Ngwazi, says winning awards is not his main objective, but to speak the truth and spread positive messages through music.
After not winning any award at the 21st National Arts Merit Awards held on Saturday in Harare, Ngwazi said he was still going to maintain the same level of his music.
He said he had not put high expectations to avoid disappointment.
Speaking to H-Metro, Ngwazi said he was happy and appreciates the nomination.
“Yes, I wanted to win the award, but for me, it’s never about winning, but staying true.
“The recognition itself is already a big win. It was really good to be recognised among the best.
“My main objective when writing music is to be true to myself and give people the music they want,” he said
Before the event, Ngwazi had hopes that he was going to scoop the gong for the People’s Choice Award.
The NAMA nomination was Ngwazi’s first since the beginning of his career.
He is currently in the studio working on a new album due for release later this year.
The Njanja Express leader is currently working on a number of videos for his latest album Nharo Nezvine Nharo.
Touted as the future sungura king after Alick Macheso, the pint-sized singer has been doing well since he made his breakthrough in 2015.
A multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Ngwazi has been doing well both in the studio and on stage.
