THE six visual artists representing Zimbabwe at the 60th International Art Exhibition at Venice Biennial 2024 will bring about diversity in storytelling.
This was said by National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe Executive Director, Raphel Chikukwa, as he congratulated Gillian Rosselli, Sekai Machache, Troy Makaza, Victor Nyakauru, Moffat Takadiwa and Kombo Chapfika for making the grade.
“As the NGZ executive director and Commissioner of the Zimbabwe Pavilion, I am very much happy with the six selected artists that will represent Zimbabwe at the 60th Venice Biennial 2024.
“They all bring diversity in Zimbabwean storytelling.
“They all use different mediums and that on its own will bring powerful messages to the Venice Biennial audiences,” he said.
Chikukwa assured international audiences that they will be treated to quality art works created by Zimbabweans.
“Working from paintings, mixed media, new medium to traditional material is what our audiences should expect.
“I want to congratulate the curator of the Zimbabwe Pavilion Fadzai Veronica Muchemwa for this powerful selection.
“The chances of making an impression out of this group is very high.
‘Now that they know what’s ahead of them, the work starts now and the sky’s the limit.
“I urge them to think outside the box and remind them that this is the platform with the biggest audiences to see their work.”
He urged various stakeholders to come on board and assist the six representatives.
“Let’s all work together towards a resounding exhibition that will leave a mark on this global platform.
“To the corporate world this is your chance to support a national project on a global platform.
“Your brand as a corporate world can shine at the Zimbabwe Pavilion.
“Your support means a lot to the re-engagement agenda and will play a bigger role in cultural diplomacy.
“To fellow artists who are not travelling, our visual DJ Fadzai Veronica Muchemwa has put forward the 6 artists, they are not only representing themselves but they are representing our beautiful country Zimbabwe and its visual arts sector.
“More importantly, their voice is your voice too. But all this is not possible if we do not have the financial and moral support.”
