PREMIERSHIP bound Nichrut have started pre-season preparations by holding trials for prospective players ahead of their debut in 2018.
The Shurugwi-based side won the sole promotional ticket from the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) and become the first club from the mining town to play in the PSL.
Dozens of players tried their luck with the CSL champions, with the most recognisable faces being former Triangle players Tonisani Sibelo and Talent Sande.
Most were unheralded players from the CSL.
Nichrut coach John Nyikadzino said he spotted some players that might make it into his team, as he prepares for its maiden PSL appearance in the 2018 season.
“I am happy with the way our trials have gone so far, but some of the players that impressed are still contracted to other clubs and we would want to negotiate for their release. We will obviously look for one or two additions from clubs in the Premiership so that we are competitive and can withstand the demands of the topflight league,” said Nyikadzino.
Nichrut were promoted on the last day of the season after beating Chrome Stars 1–0 to finish the season on 76 points; two points clear of closest rivals Tongogara.
The Nichrut points tally is only second in history to Hardbody, who amassed 77 points in the 2011 season, since the inauguration of the regional league in 2010.
Nichrut striker Jacob Muzokomba also capped Nichrut’s fine season with a 20-goal haul, which earned him the golden boot award.
