BOTSWANA-based Zimbabwean Nigel Mlauzi returned from a lengthy injury lay off and scored for his side Nico United in a 1-1 draw against VTM FC on Sunday.
It was his first start of the season and he was happy that he managed to score as his side seeks to move from the bottom of the Botswana Premier League table.
“It was great for me to score, especially after such a long period on the sidelines. It does not mean much considering that we did not win the match and looking at where we are on the log.
“I believe this is a stepping stone for me and hopefully I can help my team to survive. We did it last season and I don’t see any reason why we can’t do it again this season,” said Mlauzi.
Nico has six points after eleven league matches that have been played. They are also tied with Police XI on eight goals scored, which also shows that their offensive part of the game is where they need to improve on, the most.
Mlauzi scored five goals last season after joining the team at the middle of the season from Zimbabwean giants Highlanders FC. He will hope that he does not face any more injury problems.
He also has fellow countrymen at Nico in Kudakwashe Tsvamuno and former Caps United midfielder Kelvin Ndebele.
Nico will play their next match away from home against Orapa when the league programme resumes next year.
