The regulating agency said it will suspend all unregistered SIM cards from the telecoms service providers on that date.
NCC director of public affairs Tony Ojobo confirmed saying the decision to end the registration exercise was taken after a meeting between the Commission and the service providers.
“The SIM card registration exercise which began on March 28, 2011 will come to an end on June 30, 2013, and all SIM cards that are not registered will be barred.
“There’s now a window opportunity for those who have not registered their SIM cards to do so, otherwise from the 30th June, they will be barred and cannot use the number anymore to make calls,” Ojobo said.
Ojobo further said that the total number of registered SIMs will be made known after the cut-off date.
Nigeria has more than 100 million cell phone mobile users with a population of more than 160 million.
The initial deadline for the SIM registration was on September 28 in 2011.
However, the commission had since being harmonising and collating the results of the exercise, a process that has enabled subscribers who were not able to meet the deadline of the registration to do so. – CAJ News.
