In a statement obtained yesterday, the governor accused his politicalopponents of financing the sect to perpetrate more destruction and killing in the state.
“The political enemies have been giving the hoodlums some money to destroy the structures we have put in place for the betterment of the state, they are happy that this crisis is hampering progress we are making in all spheres of life but that will not deter us from improving the lives of our people,” Gaidam declared in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, during an inspection of the damaged structure and telecoms facilities on Monday.
The sect claimed responsibility for a series of raids, causing losses of life and property, including the destruction of telecoms base stations and public buildings five days ago.
Police said at least 16 people were killed last week by the Boko Haram sect, which vows to continue its offensive until sharia (Islamic law) is instituted in the West African nation’s Muslim dominated north. — Xinhua.
