AN employee at The Lounge Bar in Bulawayo allegedly swindled her employer of $3,094 and 12 bottles of 750ml Johnny Walker Black label whiskey, a court has heard.

Nonsikelelo Beauty Muhau, 26, of Newton West suburb, appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa on Monday facing two counts of fraud and one count of theft.

She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to December 15.

Prosecuting, Charles Danda told the court that during the period between November 12 and 22, Muhau stole cash amounting to $2,866 from her work place.

“To cover up the offence, Muhau went on to make false invoices claiming she paid suppliers, namely Doltek, Jureshma and liquor suppliers,” said Danda.

The offence came to light when one of the suppliers contacted Phathisani Nkomo, the director of The Lounge bar situated along Robert Mugabe Way.

The court heard that the suppliers demanded their payment which prompted Nkomo to institute internal investigations.

It was discovered that during the same period, Muhau stole $208 which was a refund of two empty bottle credit notes from purchases made at OK Mart in Bulawayo.

“To cover up the offence she added the two credit notes as expenses when she was doing reconciliations,” said Danda.

“On November 11, Muhau sent her colleague, Nkosilathi Bhebhe to collect a box of 12 bottles of 750ml Johnny Walker Black Label whiskey from Boot Leggers Bottle Store.

It was not stated during the court proceedings whether the alcohol was recovered.

A report was made to the police leading to Mahua’s arrest.

The total value stolen was $3,094 and only $727 was recovered,
