NIGHTMARE AT THE HOME OF CHIVAYO’S IN-LAWS

IT was like they were going to war – a bloated criminal gang on a mission to steal money and other valuables at a farm in Marondera.

Here is our breakdown of what transpired at Alpha Omega Farm, the home of the in-laws of businessman Wicknell Chivayo:

· There were 20 armed robbers and they raided the farm at about 1am yesterday morning.

·  The armed robbers were armed with three rifles, two pistols, two bolt cutters, machetes and iron bars.

·  A total of US$18k cash, and a pistol loaded with two rounds, and two cell phones, were stolen from the first bedroom.

·  A cell phone and US$1 100 in cash were stolen from the second bedroom.

·  The robbers stole US$55 000 cash in the safe of the main bedroom.

·   The total value stolen was US$74 600.

Police have launched a manhunt for the 20 armed robbers.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating an incident of armed robbery which occurred at Alpha Omega Farm, Marondera on 18th March 2025 at 0100 hours.

“Twenty suspects, who are yet to be identified and armed with rifles, pistols, bolt-cutters, machetes and iron bars, attacked the farm security personnel.

“The suspects went on to assault family members, cut burglar screens, and forced open doors. They then gained entry into the family house.

“They took away US$74 100 cash, a pistol, Samsung S24, Samsung S23, Samsung Galaxy A35, among other valuables.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police appeals for information which may assist to identify and lead to the arrest of the 20 suspects.”

At around 1am yesterday morning, one of the three security guards who were manning Alpha Omega Farm was grabbed by one of the armed robbers.

He then noticed 19 other armed robbers who were armed with three rifles, two pistols, two bolt cutters, machetes, and iron bars approaching him.

He was assaulted as the armed robbers demanded where other security guards were deployed.

They force-marched him into the yard where they manhandled another security guard and disarmed before they attacked a third guard.

When they entered the main house they then started their looting spree.
