JORDAN ZEMURA and his Bournemouth teammates crashed to a humbling 0-9 massacre at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
Here are the numbers:
9 – Cherries matched both the Premier League’s record margin for a defeat and their own. Cherries lost to Lincoln City 9-0 in 1982 in Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge, while in the Premiership, Manchester United have beaten both Ipswich (1995) and Southampton (2020) by the same margin. Saints have lost 9-0 twice in the Premier League – they were thumped 9-0 by Leicester City in 2019. Yesterday Celtic crushed Dundee United 9-0 in the Scottish Premiership, their biggest ever competitive away win in the club’s history.
6 – Mo Salah’s run of scoring in six successive games against Cherries came to an end despite his side’s massive win. A threat throughout, Salah was unable to get on the scoresheet, or produce an assist for a teammate.
16 – The amount of goals Cherries have conceded in their opening four games of the season. No team in Premier League history has conceded more after four games, with the last top-flight side to do so being Arsenal in 1963/64.
2 – Cherries recorded multiple shots on target for the first time since their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. In their games against Manchester City and Arsenal, Scott Parker’s men mustered a single shot on target. It could have been three, with Ryan Christie coming close when his effort struck the post in the first-half.
28 – The amount of goals Cherries have conceded against Liverpool in their last seven meetings. In that same timeframe, Cherries have scored once – Callum Wilson netting away at Anfield in 2020, an eventual 2-1 defeat.
12 – With two goals and three assists, Roberto Firmino has now contributed 12 goals in his 12 appearances against Bournemouth (Scored five, assisted seven). Only Raheem Sterling has contributed more, with 13 (11 goals, two assists) in 12 games. – Bournemouth Echo/Sports Reporter
