THE death of a Chegutu man, who sliced his stomach with a knife claiming something was moving inside his belly, has inspired a Grade 4 pupil to sing against drug abuse.
The nine-year-old girl, Prudence Chiwaridzo, is a pupil at Chegutu Primary School.
She combined forces with gospel musician, Trymore Bande, and her female teacher, Mai Manana, who wrote the song, Drug Abuse.
It will be officially launched on Friday.
The man, popularly known as Marabha, died on May 15, while on his way to the hospital, due to serious injuries.
He had his intestines protruding and residents in the area confirmed he was under the influence of drugs.
In the song, the singers are pleading with God to protect the young people from drugs.
“Boys and girls abstain from drugs. Leave drugs. You are killing yourself as the future generation.
“It is painful to lose young people to drugs. God is the only protector of the youths because shamu chaiyo haipedzi musikanzwa yevana,” read some of the lyrics.
Prudence, through her father, Tafadzwa, who is also a singer, said:
“She is my daughter. The song was written by the teacher, Mai Manana. But, her singing inspiration comes from me, I am a gospel singer.
“They then engaged Bande to also add his voice on the song which will be officially released on Friday.”
In the song, she describes the incident which took the man.
“He was under the influence of drugs. He sliced himself and he felt no pain.
“This is a sign that children need to be protected by God.
“Madii kurima, pray to God, we will overcome the war.”
