Cde Nkala’s body leaves 1 Commando Barracks in Harare for Bulawayo

The body of the late national hero Cde Enos Nkala has been flown to Bulawayo where it will lie in state at his home waiting for burial on
Thursday. The body was seen off at One Commando in Harare by Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, Home Affairs permanent secretary Mr Melusi Matshiya, Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Constantine Chiwenga, close relatives and senior Government officials.

Speaking to journalists before the departure of the body, Minister Mnangagwa described Cde Nkala as a distinguished hero who sacrificed
his life to liberate Zimbabwe.

“Cde Nkala is one of the few revolutionaries who still remained behind,” he said. “I do not think that he knows anything in his mind except the liberation struggle.

“I came to know him in 1962 and he was such a firebrand speaker.”

Minister Mnangagwa said Cde Nkala played a pivotal role in mobilising youths to join the liberation struggle through his insightful speeches.

He said he was fortunate to be mentored by such a distinguished and dedicated hero.

“Cde Nkala was a rabble rouser. Very few people had the courage to tell the whites that you are pigs go back to your motherland,” he said.

“I regret that he has left us. Besides President Mugabe, I do not think of any other person who is in the class of Cde Nkala now.”
Minister Mnangagwa said it was important for younger generations to emulate the legacy of perseverance and endurance left by Cde Nkala.
“If you believe in an ideal or principle, you must sacrifice and persevere to realise that ideal and Cde Nkala was one such person who believed that a black man should rule his country,” he said.
