Nkayi CEO arrested

Mkhululi Ncube, Chronicle Reporter

NKAYI Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Mr Zimbabwe Ndlovu has been arrested over alleged criminal abuse of office.

Ndlovu was arrested on Saturday and appeared yesterday before Nkayi Magistrate Mr Talent Phiri.

He was not asked to plead.

Ndlovu was remanded in custody to March 16 for commencement of trial. His lawyer Ms Linah Nyamukachi applied for bail and Mr Phiri will make a ruling on Friday.

It is the State case that Ndlovu diverted quarry stones meant to rehabilitate roads at Nkayi Growth Point and used them at his house. The value of the stones could not be ascertained.

The offence reportedly came to light after a police report by local councillors.

Mr Gift Mthethwa prosecuted.

Last year the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Cde July Moyo, sent a probe team to investigate Ndlovu over allegations of abuse of Zinara funds.

The outcome of the report has not been made public. – @themkhust_ncube
