A Nkayi driver who was facing charges of raping his 17-year-old domestic worker has been acquitted. Regional magistrate, Trynos Utahwashe ruled that the complainant failed to give convincing evidence that Fletch Moyo, 56, raped her.

“The court finds you not guilty of rape. The testimonies that were given in this court makes one doubt if you raped her,” said Utahwashe.

The State led by Robin Mukura was alleging that last year on September 15, at around 2PM at Moyo’s home in Nkayi where the girl was employed as a maid, Moyo went to the sitting room where he found her sleeping. She was awakened by Moyo who was pulling her skirt.

Moyo then forcibly undressed her and when she screamed he threatened to kill her. He, thereafter, is alleged to have raped her once.

The girl notified her parents and left the Moyo’s home as she was no longer comfortable staying there.
