Nkayi RDC’s five-year strategic plan unveiled

In an interview recently, Nkayi RDC chief executive officer Mr Zimbabwe Ndlovu said the five-year strategic plan would be linked with some of their existing plans such as the annual strategic plan and the three-year rolling plan.

“This plan builds on all the efforts that we have had and it was compiled through extensive consultation with our stakeholders that include businesspeople, villagers and service providers,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the plan captures what is best for each and every stakeholder that the RDC seeks to serve.

“We made a strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis basing on our community-based planning focusing on possible opportunities for the district and how these can benefit us,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the major aim of unveiling the plan was to enable people to align their plans with the strategic plan so that their efforts were synchronised with those of the RDC.

“We presented it to our stakeholders so that they make decisions that are relevant to it so that in the end we share  a common vision,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the plan would be the selling point of the district as it zeros down on how they take advantage of available opportunities.

“Within the next five years, we want Nkayi to achieve total socio-economic development that embraces the district’s aspirations,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the plan outlines how the RDC was going to achieve sustainable utilisation of available resources to locals.

“Through the plan, we want people to view the RDC as an organisation that values service delivery and fairness,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the council’s strategic goals include improving water and sanitation levels, providing quality and accessible education and vocational training for school leavers by 2017.

“Some of our key objectives include scaling up our food security. According to our research, this area is conducive for cash crops such as cotton,” said Mr Ndlovu.

As part of the five-year plan, Mr Ndlovu said they would work towards setting up irrigation schemes as well as reviving old ones.

“We will also seek to improve access to infrastructure such as roads, telecommunications, electricity, sewer reticulation and housing.

“In terms of economic development we want to reach a point whereby Nkayi will be having huge supermarkets and industries as the strategic plan is aimed at luring huge investment,” said Mr Ndlovu.
