THE Ministry of Health and Child Care appears to have contained typhoid after a case was reported in Nkayi last week, but authourities have urged people to exercise caution so that the disease does not spread.
A 17-year-old male from Sesemba area who recently visited relatives in Harare tested positive for typhoid last week.
Matabeleland North medical director Dr Nyasha Masuku said the patient was treated at Mbuma Mission Hospital and has since been discharged and is recuperating from home.
“The patient received treatment and was discharged from hospital after showing positive response to medication.
“The source of the disease was Mbare in Harare and so all measures were put in place to make sure that family members and contacts in Nkayi were screened,” he said.
Dr Masuka advised people to boil or chlorinate water before drinking it.
About 200 suspected cases of typhoid were recently reported in Harare.
