It was a two-man heist fit for a novel, only this script crashed at the climax.
Two daring Bulawayo men from Nketa 9, Arise Moyo (29) and Joseph Panashe Hove (27), are behind bars after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and making off with household goodies worth US$2 400.
The bold duo appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Evia Matura, where they denied all charges with straight faces. But their luck seems to have run out.
According to Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira, the duo struck on 4 and 5 July, between 6 PM and 8 PM. Under the cover of dusk, they allegedly forced open the door to Nomsa Munoriarwa’s house and went on a looting spree worthy of a supermarket sweep.
The shopping list?
- A Defy deep freezer
- A black four-plate gas stove
- Two gas tanks
- A 32-inch television
- A 42-inch television
- An Open View decoder
- And a healthy haul of groceries and toiletries
After stuffing their loot, the pair bolted like Olympic sprinters and wasted no time flogging the stolen items, likely for fast cash and street cred.
But karma was quick on the rebound.
Nomsa, no stranger to street survival herself, quickly reported the matter to the police. A swift investigation followed and soon enough, Moyo and Hove were hauled in and cuffed.
Unfortunately for Nomsa, of the US$2,400 worth of goods stolen, only US$700 worth was recovered. The rest was gone with the Wind.
Prosecutor Gurazhira slammed the accused, especially Moyo, who is not a first-time offender. She urged the court to drop the hammer, calling for a tough sentence to serve as a warning to would-be home invaders.
“The accused have been remanded in custody until 22 July.
For Moyo and Hove, what started as a bold double act may end with matching prison uniforms. From flat screens to flat-out busted — the streets don’t forget.
