Nkulumo Dube wins National Mountain Bike series

NKULUMO Dube lived up to expectations, winning the 2015 Cycling Zimbabwe Mountain Bike Cycling Series second leg held at Falcon College in Esigodini yesterday. Dube won the 46 kilometre men’s elite race in one hour 42 minutes 52 seconds. Patrick Alexander settled for second position in the same section of the competition, crossing the finishing line in one hour 54 minutes 32 seconds. The competition was held in good clear skies with cool morning temperatures in Umzingwane, Matabeleland South.

Mthokozisi Sibanda was third in one hour 54 minutes 34 seconds. Alexander led at some stage having broken free in the first three laps of the race. He lost his lead to Dube in the sixth lap.

A member of the Zimbabwe National Army, Dube said he was happy to have won the event and was looking forward to winning the remaining races in the series next month.

“I’m happy to have won the race obviously. I’m working at winning the remaining races in the series so I can qualify for the African Championships,” said Dube.

Chris Kazingizi, one of the event organisers said the points collected in the series will contribute to the African championships qualifying points.

12km Sub junior boys: 1. Ryan Reed 57 minutes 27 seconds, 2. Te Dhliwayo 1 hour 6 minutes 18 seconds.

20km Youth: 1. Jonty Danby 1 hour 12 minutes 31 seconds, 2. Patrick Mason 1 hour 42 minutes 53 seconds.

32km Junior boys: 1. Chad Scallan 1 hour 27 minutes 58 seconds, 2. Jake Greenway 1 hour 32 minutes 43 seconds, 3. Xandro Kontemeniotis 1 hour 38 minutes 4 seconds.

32km Junoir girls: Stacey Hyslop 1 hour 45 minutes 3 seconds, Skye Davidson (disqualified).

46km Elite men: 1. Nkulumo Dube 1 hour 42 minutes 52 seconds, 2. Patrick Alexander 1 hour 54 minutes 32 seconds, 3. Thomas Classen 1 hour 54 minutes 33 seconds.

Masters: 1. Ant Greenway 1 hour 45 minutes 57 seconds, 2. James Freeland 1 hour 58 minutes 25 seconds.
