THE Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) suffered its first casualty when NM Academy pulled out of the league citing financial constraints despite settling their affiliation fees. The Mvuma-based outfit withdrew from the CSL without kicking a ball after failing to fulfil its previous two encounters. CSL chairman Stanley Chapeta said the league would continue with 17 clubs.
“I can confirm that NM Academy wrote to us citing financial difficulties and will therefore no longer be part of the league this season. Since the league has started, we will proceed with 17 teams,” said Chapeta.
“Starting this week, clubs that had been drawn against NM Academy will be given a bye, beginning with Whawha this week”. Chapeta hinted that the league’s sponsorship would be unveiled on May 7.
Action continues in the region with joint log leaders Blanket Mine making the long trip to Shurugwi for a date against Nichrut at Peak Stadium. Blanket Mine have made a perfect start to the season, winning their opening two games. However, their credentials will be tested when they face Nichrut, who thumped Kwekwe Sables 5-0 last weekend.
