The Bulawayo City Council has dismissed as fake a public advisory notice circulating on social media claiming that there is a bedbug infestation in Nkulumane suburb that needs fumigation.

The City’s Health Services Director, Dr Edwin Sibanda-Mzingwane, confirmed that the advisory is not authentic and was not issued by the City’s Health Services and Control Department.

The advisory, which has been shared on various social media platforms alleged that 300 houses are infested with bed bugs with key areas being Nkulumane, Emganwini and Nketa.

It also warned residents of symptoms such as loss of blood and wounds on their bodies and advised them to avoid non-essential visits to affected areas and take necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the bug infestation.

However, the city however said they are on high alert following a bed bug infestation in Harare.
