No joy for Chitiyo

CAPS United midfielder Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo’s footballing future is looking bleak following revelations the Green Machine are yet to secure required funds to enable him to undergo a delicate knee surgery in South Africa. The diminutive midfielder, who returned to Makepekepe in January after walking out on Tunisian giants Club Sfaxien, was hit by a car while walking in Epworth.

About R115 000 is needed for the 25-year-old player to undergo the operation in South Africa.
The operation is expensive locally and CAPS United are battling to find ways of how they can help the former Monomotapa and Dynamos talisman.

CAPS United chief executive Cuthbert Chitima told The Herald yesterday that the team was still to send their star to South Africa as they were in the process of pooling the resources.

“Ronald Chitiyo is yet to undergo the operation in South Africa where the procedure is scheduled to be undertaken. He will have to be attended to by South African specialists and R115 000 is needed,’’ said Chitima.

“As a club, we wish to see our injured players getting assistance as soon as possible and we are running around to try and mobilise the resources for him to be treated.’’

Chitiyo’s injury was initially expected to keep him on the sidelines for not more than three weeks and Makepekepe took a gamble to register him with the Premiership.

It emerged later, after the midfielder aggravated the injury by rushing back to training in April, that it needed specialist treatment.

With Chitiyo sidelined, CAPS United are expected to be active during the mid-season transfer window.
Praise Tonha, who was towards the start of the season following the collapse of his club How Mine, has since stopped training with Makepekepe after apparently struggling for game time at the Green Machine.

Oscar Machapa, Abasarim Chidiebere and Denver Mukamba are all set to be off-loaded.
Mukamba is reported to be eyeing a move back to his parent club DeMbare.
Makepekepe are expected to register Method Mwanjali while there are indications they will also be re-uniting with former striker Abbas Amidu.

Amidu was training with the Green Machine before he went for the COSAFA Cup with the Warriors in South Africa.
