A 54-YEAR-OLD nurse from Weirmouth Park, Mutare was cuffed and fined for selling alcoholic beverages without a licence.
According to Zimbabwean law, selling liquor without a license is an offense punishable by a fine, imprisonment or both.
On 1 December 2024, Manicaland detectives received a report that Angela Gara was selling liquor without authorisation, using her Toyota Ipsum vehicle for distribution.
In response to the tip, detectives arrived at the accused person’s home, made their presence known, and informed her of the investigation.
In the presence of detectives, the accused person retrieved a 25-liter container of vinyu beer from the garage and handed it over.
Detectives demanded that the accused person show proof of a valid liquor license or permit, but she could not produce one.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “The accused person was arrested and the recovered liquor had a value of US$20. The accused person was sentenced to pay a fine of US$105 or 1 month imprisonment in default of payment.”
