No one must be left out: Dr Parirenyatwa

KEY populations affected by HIV and Aids in Zimbabwe must not be left out during the International Conference on AIDS and STIs to be held in Harare next month as the country aims to achieve zero new HIV infections.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa, said this in Harare, recently speaking to editors at a sensitisation breakfast meeting called for by the National AIDS Council and PSI Zimbabwe.

Dr Parirenyatwa extended his invitation to all affected by the disease to the ICASA conference that will take place in Harare from November 29 to December 4.

“Key populations are not to be left out and everyone is invited to attend ICASA. In Zimbabwe our key populations are sex workers, the youth, long distance truck drivers and prisoners,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

Preparations for hosting the conference are now at an advanced stage.

In Zimbabwe, there is no discrimination when one seeks services at a hospital or clinic.

No-one is asked of their sexual orientation before getting medical attention.

“All hospitals and clinics serve people without asking of their sexual orientation, so no-one is discriminated in seeking health services,” this was said by Amon Mpofu, the National Aids Council monitoring and evaluation director.

With the country still recording sexually transmitted infections, the conference comes at an opportune time as it will shed light on roadmap and where and what needs to be tightened up.

“All hospitals and clinics serve people without asking of their sexual orientation, so no-one is discriminated in seeking health services,”
