THE two leading contenders in the ZIFA Northern Division One Soccer League — MWOS and Scottland — kept their riveting championship race alive with hard-fought away wins by similar margins yesterday.
Everson Feremba scored a brace to guide the leaders MWOS to a 2-1 win over DZ Royal Stars in the capital.
Feremba was the leading scorer at Black Rhinos, who are just a point behind Scottland, before he switched camp to join MWOS midway during the season.
The Norton side pulled all stops to get their prized asset as Rhinos initially resisted the move.
He is proving to be a worthy addition to the MWOS side.
Lloyd Mutasa’s men have a seven-point lead but they have played a game more and Scottland could cut that gap to four points if they win a boardroom battle for their abandoned league match against Karoi United.
That match was prematurely called off when the referee collapsed in the dying minutes of the game, claiming he had been injured by something thrown from the stands.
The hearing was at ZIFA House yesterday.
Scottland kept themselves in the campaign with a victory at Shamva through goals from Cephas Dube and Ronald Pfumbidzai.
The Zimbabwe international has been making a difference at Scottland since his return home from his stint in South Africa.
