‘No side effects from cholera vaccination’

THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported that no side effects have been recorded from its ongoing oral cholera vaccination campaign which started on January 29. 

Almost 700 000 people have been vaccinated so far. 

Ministry of Health and Child Care cholera incident manager, Dr Isaac Phiri, was optimistic about the uptake of the vaccine in hotspot districts, saying the programme was running smoothly.

“Gutu, which is a hotspot, so far had vaccinated 51 305 and Mwenezi had 59 831 vaccinations. 

“In Chiredzi, which we were worried about, we have a coverage of 97 percent after vaccinating 78 876 people.

“Harare (239 113) in hotspot areas of Kuwadzana, Glen View and Budiriro,” said Dr Phiri.

Zimbabwe has seen 23 409 suspected cholera cases, with 2 447 confirmed cases and 71 confirmed deaths. 

The recovery number has reached a total of 22 695.
