SNOWFALLS being experienced in South Africa will not spill into Zimbabwe.
However, the Meteorological Services Department has said there will be cold and windy conditions in most parts of the country today until tomorrow.
Met Department forecaster, James Ngoma, said there will be a significant drop in temperatures, particularly in the southern parts of the country.
“As it stands, we will not be receiving any snow but we are going to be experiencing a cold front in Matabeleland and Midlands.
“It only snowed in Johannesburg and snow did not fall in Pretoria. We will, however, be monitoring the situation.
“Botswana, being a vastly desert area means you will find that it will be very cold in the evenings with some chances of snow in certain areas,” said Ngoma.
He said strong cold winds from the south should cause cloudy conditions, with light drizzle in some places in Matabeleland South, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, and some parts of Mashonaland East provinces.
“Very low daytime temperatures are also expected. Maximum temperatures may be below 12°c in some places in Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland.”
Johannesburg residents woke up to snowfall yesterday after temperatures dropped to at least -6°C in the southern parts of Gauteng province on Sunday evening.
The South African Weather Service warned that cold conditions over Gauteng are expected to continue until tomorrow, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 13°C in the northern areas of the province.
It also warned of severe frost overnight and tomorrow morning.
