POLITICAL chicanery and tactics meant to mislead, confuse, as well as divide the party and the nation at large must be nipped in the bud, President Mnangagwa has said.
Addressing the 386th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, the President, who is also Zanu PF First Secretary, said the party will not tolerate divisive elements in whatever form.
“We must all speak with one voice and march in one direction. Leaders of the party are bound by collective responsibility and must unite around party decisions and resolutions, which serve as our ideological and moral compass. Hauroti zvinhu kumba kwako woenda uchitaura sehurongwa hwemusangano. Our communication must be disciplined. MuZanu PF tinomira pachokwadi. Zvemazvake-mazvake, pasi nazvo,” he said.
The President said the ideological and practical strategies which informed the protracted armed liberation struggle must be a constant reminder to the rank and file that Zanu PF will forever be a people’s party.
“We come from the people, and we will forever remain one with the people. Mobilising and organising the membership to work diligently towards realising our national development aspirations must be our daily duty and political routine.
“As a mass, colossal revolutionary party, we are mandated to govern through regular, structured engagements and transformational results. Our policies should thus continue to be people-centred and crafted in the national interest. Tendencies of ivory tower syndrome, which divorce the party from the grassroots, must be avoided at all costs,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President also called upon the ruling party’s leadership to provide reliable and dependable guidance in all aspects of governance.
“The ongoing implementation of responsive programmes and projects should equally help us to shield our country and people from the nefarious ambitions of imperialists and neo-colonialists.”
Reflecting on the Zanu PF Youth League National Assembly that he attended last week, President Mnangagwa noted that there is renewed focus on empowerment, production and productivity among the vanguard of the party.
“I was pleased with the outcome of my engagement with members of our Youth League during their National Assembly Meeting. The renewed focus of the Youth League on empowerment, production and productivity, as well as innovation and developing skills for the future, is a welcome development.
“This is reflective that our Youth League has matured beyond political sloganeering and is ready to take up space in other social, economic and technological spheres, towards an improved quality of life for our people and the youth in particular. I look forward to this year’s celebration of Munhumutapa Day,” he said.
President Mnangagwa reiterated that under his leadership, hard, honest work, discipline, focus, courage and determination remain fundamental aspects of the national character, adding that national identity, dignity and sovereignty must always be defended.
“We must never allow the youth and young people, as well as the women of our country, to be trapped in a vicious cycle of dependency. We are masters of our own destiny and a proud African people. This must never change,’’ he said.
The Politburo meeting was held a few weeks after the nation successfully commemorated the Heroes and Defence Forces Days, where Zimbabweans demonstrated unity.
“In our gatherings across the breadth and length of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, we demonstrated that we are a strong united nation, that is confident of a brighter and prosperous future. It is very apparent that individually and collectively, across communities, we all appreciate the prevailing unity, peace and security within our country, which are essential ingredients for national development. This is commendable, well done, my fellow countrymen and women. Ngatirambei takabatana, tichivaka nyika yedu”.
During the Politburo meeting, a minute of silence was observed in honour of national hero Cde Victor Kuretu and other heroes and heroines who passed away this month.
