meeting in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza town clerk Mr George Makunde said they had resolved the issue and had since applied to Government for more land to ensure that all people acquire residential stands.
His sentiments came after the residents raised issues on why the municipality had distributed the stands, which were meant for schools, crèches and churches among others. Mr Makunde said some of the land they had acquired for residential development include, the Nyatsime Area.
“We are not going to demolish any of these houses or structures since we have resolved to apply for more land to ensure that everyone gets a residential stand. Imagine that someone was allocated that piece of land and spent a lot of money developing it, using all his hard earned cash and therefore we will not demolish such structures,” he said.
Mr Makunde also urged the residents to shun corruption and to report such cases. The town clerk said most of the people involved in corruption were the ones selling the stands at inflated prices. Mr Makunde said they were still looking into the issue of salaries since most people were complaining that municipal employees were being overpaid instead of delivering services to the people.
