‘No to embezzlement of school funds’

the law will soon catch up with them.
Secretary for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Dr Stephen Mahere said Government would not hesitate to prosecute administrators stalling development in schools through embezzling funds.
He was speaking during the presentation of the annual Secretary’s Bell Awards to Nyangwene Primary School in Mhondoro yesterday.

Nyangwene was voted the best school in Mashonaland West province after excelling in academic and sporting activities
“There have been numerous reports on (school) administrators abusing funds and this is uncalled for in our education sector,” said Dr Mahere.
“This is impacting negatively on the country’s education system because it would be difficult to talk of development when there are no funds.

“We need serious and committed leaders who are there to safeguard the achievements we have made in the education sector since independence.”
Education, Dr Mahere said, was key to the success of any nation.

He said Government remained committed to the development of the country’s education system.
He called on pupils to take education seriously and “eschew” social vices to attain higher positions in the future.
“Education is very vital in our lives and there is need to take it seriously.

“I urge you to be focused and disciplined so as to achieve a better future for yourselves and the nation as a whole,” he said.
“You are the future leaders and that is why Government is committed to education. It is our hope that more resources would be channelled to education in the 2012 national budget that is set to be announced in a few weeks time.”

Mhondoro-Mubaiwa Member of the House of Assembly Cde Sylvester Nguni pleaded with parents and guardians to desist from excessive interference in the academic calendar in terms of social activities.

“Let us encourage our students to excel in academic and sporting activities because you never know which field your child might up in,” he said.
“Parents and teachers should establish good relations and once this is achieved schools are guaranteed of development.”

Cde Nguni urged mining companies to continue giving back proceeds of their businesses to the local communities and benefit the majority.
Zimplats recently rebuilt Nyangwene Primary School after it was damaged by a hailstorm last year.
