‘No to false promises’

Agriculture Reporter
Agritex officers should desist from making false statements and promises to farmers, Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Minister Joseph Made has said. He some Agritex officers were announcing policy issues and programmes, which turned out to be misrepresented facts.
“Some Agritex officers are commenting on issues that are irrelevant to them. They announce the mechanisation and irrigation programmes and make false promises to farmers,” said Minister Made.

“Farmers are now spending time running around looking for the machinery and irrigation equipment they would have been made to believe are being disbursed. Farmers should be busy preparing their fields and planting.”

Minister Made said when the mechanisation programme is ready, the responsible minister would make a statement.
“Everything should be centralised. Officers on the ground do not make announcements. Agritex does not have the authority to announce or make statements.

The authority to make announcements lies with the minister. We should not raise farmers’ hopes when there is nothing on offer yet.”
