the imposition of candidates in the party.
He said the practice will not be tolerated anymore as the revolutionary party gears for primary elections to choose candidates for polls scheduled for later this year.
He lamented the practice by some party “big wigs” of imposing candidates saying this has contributed to the party’s poor performance in some provinces.
Cde Shamu said people should be allowed to choose leaders of their choice without coercion from senior leaders.
“Let me make it very clear that Zanu-PF will not tolerate anymore, the sickening practice of imposing candidates on the people every time that we hold primary elections.
“It is disheartening to note that in the past some senior party leaders would go out into the provinces and pick candidates who they impose on the people claiming that they got the permission from Harare and that must stop.
“Candidates do not come from Harare but from the people. They come from the cells, at village level, right up to the top,” he said.
Cde Shamu said the time had come for Zanu-PF to consolidate its empowerment programmes for the benefit of the people through unity. Cde Shamu also denounced factionalism in the provinces calling for unity among the leadership.
He challenged the provincial leadership in Masvingo to work together to revive the days when Zanu-PF was the uncontested dominant political force in the province.
He urged the leaders to emulate leaders like the late Vice President Simon Muzenda, veteran nationalist Cde Eddison Zvobgo and liberation war supremos General Vitalis Zvinavashe and Air Marshall Josiah Tungamirai, who worked for unity in Masvingo Province.
