N’OMBEYAORA crashed to their first defeat in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League after a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Agama at Pfura Stadium yesterday.
An early strike from Grey Kufandada proved decisive for the home side and sent Agama one point clear at the summit.
The game’s lone goal came in the 12th minute when Kufandada capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home past N’ombeyaora’s goalkeeper.
Despite sustained pressure from the visitors, Agama’s disciplined defence held firm.
Agama coach Arthur Tutani was a happy man after the match.
“It was a very, very good result,” said Tutani.
“What I can simply say is that the sky is the limit.
“We have the manpower, the resources and I hope we’ll keep grinding good results.”
Tutani added:
“We knew they had good ball players who could run us down, so we avoided pressing them high. Instead, we stayed compact and waited for our moment.”
N’ombeyaora coach, Nesbert Saruchera, admitted his team’s profligacy in front of goal cost them dearly.
“We played very well but missed a lot of chances, it was not our day,” Saruchera said.
“We need to go back to the drawing board and make sure we bounce back quickly if we are to be considered serious championship material.”
