N’OMBEYAWORA have reclaimed top position in the Northern Region Soccer League after their convincing 4-1 win over Zambezi at Rufaro on Sunday.
The match was a part of a double header arrangement which saw the division one match played earlier before the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash between Scottland and Kwekwe United.
The win left the Hunters on 30 points.
N’ombeyawora captain McClive Phiri said they are not excited about being on top as the championship race is a marathon.
“It feels good to win matches. It has always been the objective of winning going into games.
“We are looking at a scenario where the team is able to play our normal game and get good results,” said Phiri.
“Now that we are back on top, we are excited. That’s where we want to be and we feel that we belong there.
“But there is a lot of competition and work that needs to be put together from the team. Working together as a team is key and a big factor for us is to thrive,” he said.
He added: “But we are aware that this is just the beginning, the race is a marathon.
“We need to continue on top of our game if we are to maintain this.”.
Agama, who were knocked off the top, are now one point behind N’ombeyawora after playing a goalless draw against Harare City.
On Thursday Agama will be welcoming Black Rhinos who are on a resurgence.
Black Rhinos fired four past FC Oden to register their biggest win of this season.
Black Rhinos are now on 25 points. A win against Agama will reduce the gap between them to a point.
Meanwhile, N’ombeyawora has a date with Golden Eagles. It will be another tough encounter for both sides as they seek to ascertain early dominance in the league.
Eagles are currently on 24 points and played a goalless draw away to Shamva over the weekend.
