‘Nomination of Prof Moyo childish’

as a candidate for the House of Assembly Speaker’s post in what the MP called a “childish display”.
MDC-T’s Masvingo Urban representative Mr Tongai Matutu nominated Cde Jonathan Moyo with Southerton legislator Mr Gaift Chimanikire seconding.
Pandemonium ensued with Zanu-PF, led by Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, saying it was unprocedural.
Prof Moyo afterwards said: “They showed that they were immature and it was typical of their childish approach to very serious things.
“What they did today shows that they did not learn from their mischievous behaviour they exhibited in 2008.”
Prof Moyo said he would take legal action over MDC-T claims that he had tried to bribe their MPS by offering them US$5 000 each.
“I am going to sue them for those statements, they should learn to behave properly in and outside Parliament.”
On the vote outcome, he said: “The Supreme Court made it clear that the election on August 25, 2008 had not been conducted in terms of the law.
“Today’s election is a landmark election in the manner it was conducted.
“Those who organised it should be congratulated . . . it was beyond reproach and in accordance with the ruling of the Supreme Court.
“In this case, the civilised thing to do is to congratulate the winner.
“We hope that he and his party will not continue to demonise Zimbabwe by claiming that we don’t have democracy and the rule of law.
“What we witnessed today is a shining example of democracy and rule of law in Zimbabwe. There is something salutary in losing a democratic and legal election.
“The winner and his party should take a party from this one and learn to accept defeat in democratic elections – something they have had a problem in doing.”
