NOMINATIONS for the Guineas race pencilled in for Borrowdale Racecourse on 10 March are out.

A total of eleven horses were handed over to Mashonaland Turf Club as nominees from various yards that have an interest in the 1 600m long contest which carries $8 000 in stakes money.

Trainer Bridget Stidolph has the highest number of entries after handing over to Mashonaland Turf Club names of eight equines to fight for all the available slots.

The next trainer to add names into the provisional list was Penny Fisher who managed to submit two runners from her yard plus trainer Kirk Swanson to throw one more runner into the hat.

In due course Mash Turf Club will roll out the pre-race qualifying stages followed by the final acceptance stage slated in for Monday.

According to the racing manager, Betina Gurajena once the final acceptance stage is over Mash Turf Club will compile the race card which is expected to be ready on Wednesday next week.

“Once we are done with the weight and draws stage trainers will be in a position to know which one of their horses they can declare including assigning jockeys to those horses. As soon we are done with that we will conduct the acceptance stage thereafter compile the race card which we expect to be out by next week on Wednesday,” Gurajena said.

Once the card is pushed out the punters can start gleaning through the career records of runners in search of the possible winner, a process that can change their lives instantly from rags to riches if they win.

From this list outstanding names are Action Jackson a winner recently, the trail blazing Mia Finola, Sygone and Opaque among others. If these top dogs of horse racing make it through all the pre-race qualifying stages then fans of the sport are in for a treat come race day.

The Guineas race is one horse racing competition that can leave tongues wagging long after it’s gone.

However, for now all eyes are on the preliminary stages as trainers are anxious to see which one of their nominees will sail through and declared fit to race.
