Nonny and Maverick Muji part ways: singer addresses viral social media posts

South African Afropop artist Nonny Muji has confirmed that she and her husband and longtime musical collaborator, Maverick Muji, have ended their relationship.

The announcement comes after days of speculation following a series of emotional social media posts that sparked widespread discussion among fans.

In a public statement, Nonny addressed the situation directly and confirmed that the couple had decided to go their separate ways.

“I would like to address my recent social media posts from Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Yes, it is true. I have finally gathered the strength to walk away, and the decision has been made for us to part ways as a couple,” she wrote.

Nonny also urged the public to rely only on information shared by her personally, saying that there were many narratives and opinions circulating online.

“I will, however, not be responding to or entertaining any information that has not been shared directly by me. I kindly ask that only my own statements be regarded as my position.”

The singer admitted that sharing her feelings publicly may have been impulsive, but said that she had no regrets because their relationship had always played out in the public eye.

“Sharing what I did on social media may have been an impulsive decision, but it is one that I do not regret, as our relationship has always been public.”

The split follows allegations made by Nonny that Maverick had been involved in a secret affair that allegedly lasted two years. She further claimed that he concealed communication through his brother’s cellphone and alleged that another woman became pregnant during the affair. Despite the personal challenges surrounding their separation, Nonny said that the pair hope to maintain a professional relationship and continue to co-parent together in a healthy environment.

“We have a significant amount of unreleased music together, which may or may not be released in the future. Our hope is that we can continue to work together professionally and, most importantly, co-parent in a healthy and respectful manner.”

She added that while there is still much to process, their decision remains final.

“While there is still so much to navigate, one thing remains certain: our decision to part ways stands.” Over the years, Nonny and Maverick built a loyal fan base through their blend of Afropop and Afrosoul music.

Their chemistry both on and off stage helped turn them into one of the most recognisable duos in the genre.

Among their most popular collaborations are “Ngimtholile”, the song that introduced many fans to their partnership, “Asduke Nezwe”, which attracted close to a million views and “Mastende (Home)”, released earlier this year.

They also collaborated on “Ipigogo”, a May 2026 Afrohouse and Afropop release led by producer and singer YANII.

While her personal life has dominated headlines in recent days, Nonny continues to reach new heights professionally.

She has received nominations for Afropop Artist of the Year and Samro Songwriter of the Year at the 2026 Basadi in Music Awards for her hit song “Lo Bhuti”.

Following speculation that the public fallout could be linked to award season publicity, Nonny firmly dismissed the suggestion, confirming that the breakup is genuine and unrelated to her nominations. – IOL
