THE ZIFA Northern Region Division One league unveiled a new sponsor, who has come on board to bankroll an eight-team knockout tournament, in Harare yesterday.

It follows the decision by authorities to give them the greenlight, to resume their activities, last weekend.

The league, led by Harare business executive, Martin Kweza, have partnered with Axis Solutions Africa.

“I am very happy for this moment as it has changed the face of our league as we now have a sponsor who will bankroll our eight-team knockout tournament,’’ said Kweza.

‘’The tournament will kick off during the first half break, in the championship race, with the top eight teams battling it out.

“We have decided to give everyone an equal opportunity as we feel the last final standings cannot be considered as some clubs have just joined the league this season.

“This is a commitment from the league, in its efforts to enhance player development, by increasing the number of competitions, within the league.

“We pledge to do our best, to protect the image of the sponsors, Axis Solutions and, at the same time, increasing their brand awareness, across the board.’’

The region already have Ruyamuro Service Stations as their championship sponsors.

Axis Solutions Africa chief executive, Brian Mukudzavhu, said he will continue to support the ZIFA Northern Region because of their professionalism.

“We are very grateful to unveil this big sponsorship package, which will see us also sponsor the Goalkeeper of the Tournament, Top Goal-scorer, Player of the Tournament as well as the Coach of the Tournament,’’ he said.

“The prize money, for the eight-team tournament is US$20 000, which will cover training jerseys, among several other logistics.

‘’The player of the tournament will get US$500 while the top goal-scorer will get US$300.

Football was last played in Division One at the end of the 2019 season.

However, clubs are preparing for the resumption of the league.

The Northern Region have been on a vaccination drive, encouraging their clubs to get the jab, and they have already trained Covid-19 compliance officers, in preparation, for the restart.
