RESIDENTS of Ward 11, Katanga in Norton, have raised funds to drill three boreholes to alleaviate water shortages in their area.

In an interview, Ward 11 Katanga Norton Councillor Eshawedi Chamunogwa said they have come up with projects to sink boreholes using contributions from residents.

“The idea came about due to a shortage of water in Norton, and the fact that residents may have to wait for a for long time for a water treatment plant for the town,” he said.

“So this is a stop gap measure that we have taken for our residents to receive water. So they appreciated and liked this idea and we are spearheading that and to date, we have sunk three boreholes and in the coming weeks, we are expecting to sink three more.

“We have held meetings about the boreholes over the weekend.”

Clr Chamunogwa said what is outstanding on the boreholes that have been drilled is the installation.

“So we are encouraging residents of our ward to continue with the project,” he said.

Clr Chamunogwa said having borehole water is part of his manifesto, which viewed this as an alternative to not having council water.

“So through my ward development committee, we discussed about it so it’s working well,” he said.

Clr Chamunogwa said after the boreholes will be solar lights for residents and tower lights for lighting purposes in liaison with Norton Town Council.
