Notorious armed robber Musa Taj Abdul, accomplices convicted

Three notorious robbers who robbed the public in Borrowdale, Harare have been convicted of 13 counts today by Harare regional magistrate Mr Ignatio Mhere.

Musa Taj Abdul, Charles Lundu and Sean Andile Dhlamini are expected to return in court on January 5, 2024 for sentencing.

Prosecutor Mr Kelvin Munyimi proved that the trio, sometime in July 2020, used threats of immediate violence on Lyle Leonard Wilson whilst armed with a short gun, pistols, hammer and iron bars and took away his cash amounting to US$1 656 and four cell phones.

“They took property namely cash amounting to US$1656, Sony Ericson cell phone, Nokia cell phone, Samsung cell phone, Huawei Y9 cell phone, 1xMillion bottle of perfume, 1xMontblanc bottle of perfume, IxJimmychoo bottle of perfume, 2xBvlgari bottles of perfume, 1xObssession by Calvin Clein bottle of perfume, 1xBeverly Hills bottle of perfume, 1xSecret Sunset bottle of perfume, Play station 4, Play station pads, HP Notebook laptop, gold bracelet inscribed SHELBIE, i-Phone 11 Promax cell phone, brown and red handbag inscribed GUESS, eye glasses, pair of Rayban sunglasses, 1xNarcisso Rodrigues bottle of perfume, Huawei P9 cell phone, i-Phone 65 cell phone, Zimbabwean passport and national identity card in the name of Darrien Payne, an orange kit bag shot and deprived Lyle Leoncend Lawson permanently of his possession or ownership of the property which was in his lawful custody ,” read the court papers.

On the other 12 counts, the court heard that on July 25, 2020 and at number 1 Borrowdale Lane at Trauma Centre, the three accused, armed with a short gun, pistols, hammer and iron bars again robbed cellphones and laptops from 12 different individuals.

The complainants are Todoka Wilbert, Simon Machemedze, Jerifanos Fana, Faith Chatikobo, Stewart Vengayi, Pamela Isaac, Juliana Tsikidzi, Elita Sakala, Grace Manjengwa, Dorcas Ephraim and Cheryl Masvosva.

The total value prejudiced is US$3 475.

Abdul is currently serving a four-year sentence in prison after he was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm last year.
