POLICE in Gweru have arrested two notorious burglars who were behind a spate of house break ins in and around Gweru, recovering 34 plasma television sets and an assortment of goods running into several thousands of dollars.
Moses Munemo (37) and Luke Mhlanga (42) of Ascot high density suburb, Gweru broke into supermarkets and houses in and around the Midlands capital stealing television sets, home theatres, laptops, speakers, grinding machines and other valuables.
Police have since recovered 34 plasma television sets and other valuables worth $14 961.
Munemo and Mhlanga were yesterday arraigned before Gweru Provincial magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing unlawful entry and theft.
The two were convicted on their own plea and remanded in custody to Friday for sentencing.
The State’s case was that during the period extending from November to 21 January the duo broke into supermarkets and houses where they stole television sets and other valuables which they would hide in a secluded place.
The accused persons allegedly stole 34 flat screen television sets and other valuables worth $14 961 during their spate of housebreaking and theft.
The court heard that in one of the incident, the duo went to Simrac Supermarket in Gweru’s Central Business District (CBD) around 3am where they broke in and stole some groceries.
However, luck ran out for the two when they were spotted by police on patrol while they were moving the loot to their car, and approached them to enquire.
Munemo and Mhlanga fled the scene leaving their car behind.
The police officers chased after them and managed to arrest Munemo and he implicated his accomplice Mhlanga.
Munemo and Mhlanga led the police to the recovery of 34 plasma television sets, home theatres, laptops, speakers, grinding machines and groceries valued at $3 000.
