POLICE have arrested Alous Rupondo, who has been a fugitive from justice after he allegedly murdered a man who sought to restrain him from assaulting his girlfriend in December last year.

A manhunt was launched for Rupondo after he fatally stabbed Peter Manjoro (47) at a Sakubva beerhall where he had been drinking with his friends.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed Rupondo’s arrest.

He was expected to appear in court yesterday to answer to the murder charges.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Rupondo was arrested at a hide-out in Sakubva after two weeks of evading arrest.

“Rupondo is being accused of murdering Manjoro sometime in December 2021. He was assaulting his girlfriend and Manjoro tried to restrain him. The interference did not go down well with Rupondo, who after leaving his girlfriend at home pursued Manjoro.

“He found the victim drinking beer with his friends at a beer hall in Chisamba, drew out a kitchen knife and stabbed him. Manjoro was pronounced dead on arrival at Sakubva Hospital,” he said.
