Seasoned Urban Grooves musician Nox Guni has stirred conversation on social media after publicly sharing his performance rate card – a move that has drawn both praise and criticism from fans and industry observers.
In the Facebook post, Nox outlines a structured pricing model for his performances. He charges US$2 000 for a local show backed by a DJ, while a live band performance costs US$3 000. For international bookings, clients are required to add an extra US$500 on top of the local rates.
For South African shows, the singer charges R25 000 for a DJ set and R35 000 for a full band performance. Meanwhile, more intimate bookings such as weddings and guest appearances are priced below US$1 500 with a DJ and under US$2 500 when performing with a band.
While some have commended the transparency and professionalism of clearly stating booking fees, others have questioned the decision to make such details public.
Outspoken creative Bruce Ncube criticised the move, suggesting it may signal underlying issues.
“No professional musician does this unless you are trying to prove a point or something is wrong,” he said.
However, others view the rate card as a sign of confidence and readiness to work. Social media user Tanaka Nyakutanga praised the pricing as realistic and reflective of Nox’s standing in the industry.
“Smart pricing. No unrealistic charges. This is fair for anyone looking to hire him,” she said.
The debate highlights broader conversations within the creative sector around pricing transparency, artiste value, and evolving marketing strategies in a digital age.
More reactions are expected as the discussion continues online.
