Ice and Roses in Midrand, where he is based, and so far indications are that he has not lost his touch.
Since its inception, several hit songs have been released which include “Ndakawanikwa” by Maskiri and “Painkiller” by Stunner ft Nox, currently topping the charts on local radio stations.
Other songs from the stable include Nox’s songs “Kana Ndinewe”, “Type Yemababe”, “Whatsapp”, “Usazvinyepere” and “I Love You”, the video of which is currently showing on satellite music television station Channel O.
“The studio manager is my young brother, Gabriel Guni, and we have two full-time producers — GTBeatz and Daddy Ish. The studio is based in Midrand, Johannesburg, but we plan to open another branch in Zimbabwe.
“We have so far signed four artistes, namely Tyfah Guni, Tawanda Mugodi, Junior Spice and Sean Focus from Malawi. We also entered into service level agreements with Joe Machingura’s Heshi Mfeshi for online marketing of their artistes,” said Nox.
“Ice and Roses” is a brand that was founded by Nox in 2010, but the studio was established in June 2012.
So far, the studio has released one compilation album titled “Ice and Roses Compilation Volume One”, and has been doing very well on the local stations
According to Nox, the studio is set to open its doors to other artistes and already some of the artistes to have been recorded are Mono Mukundu, Maskiri, Trevor Dongo and Stunner.
“Now that the music side of ‘Ice and Roses’ is established, plans are at an advanced stage to launch Ice n Roses Visuals which focuses on video productions, films and adverts. This section is headed by Chagwa Black, who did the video for Maskiri’s 2011 chart topper “Wenera”.
Asked whether the death of TBA affected his music in any way, Nox said it gave him energy to fulfil the journey they started together.
“I’m sure wherever he is if he can see me he is smiling saying ‘That’s my boy’ and I intend to keep the memory of him alive through my music and also helping other artistes grow like he did,” he said.
Nox has proved to be one of the hardworking young artistes. He has to date nine albums in a period of six years and is currently working on another album to be released in June.
TBA, who produced Nox’s five albums, was one of the best sound engineers to emerge from Zimbabwe. He rose to fame after producing songs such as “Suzzana” (Roki), “Zvachose” (Kevie) and “Waenda” (Tererai Mugwadi) under That Squad Studio.
TBA then moved from That Squad (Chamhembe) to start his own Chigutiro stable where he produced several compilation and solo albums by renowned urban grooves artistes like Ngoni Kambarami, Maskiri, Shayne Dings, 2BG, Nox and Honey Vibes, among several others before moving to South Africa where he produced several albums for Zimbabweans and South Africans.
He died together with his girlfriend Theresa in a car crash on his way home from his double album launch with newcomer to the Chigutiro team — Sean 1 — on October 29, 2011.
