MUTARE Sports Club will host its first National Premier League (NPL) encounter on Sunday when Westside Cricket Club entertain Rainbow in Match Day Three of the exciting cricket extravaganza which started last Sunday.
The start of the NPL action was not so good for Mutare Sports Club, as it succumbed to a six wickets defeat to a determined Kadoma Cricket Club.
Bright Matsiwe, Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Brandon Mavuta, all scored good 50s to give Kadoma Cricket Club a wonderful start to their first season in the NPL, as they beat Mutare Sports Club by six wickets at Old Hararians Sports Club last Sunday.
Kaitano, as captain, put Mutare in to bat, and Davis Murwendo removed their opening pair for six runs on the board.
Donald Tiripano with a sound 65 and John Masara with 43 led a recovery that took the final score to 216, with three wickets each for Murwendo, Victor Chirwa and Mavuta.
When Kadoma went in, Matsiwe opened the innings with some powerful hitting, scoring 68 off 46 balls with three sixes and eight fours.
Kaitano followed up with a cool 50 not out off 65 balls, but he was outshone in a third-wicket partnership of 107 by Mavuta, whose 60 came off only 42 balls.
It took Kadoma only 34.1 overs to complete their well-deserved victory. —Senior Reporter/Zimbabwe Cricket.
