NRZ commissioner fails to pay maintenance

demonstration by the employees’ spouses.
Chisungano Chipunza, who is a commissioner at NRZ, was brought to court by Mariana Makanganya who was claiming US$80 maintenance fees for their child.
“He is a commissioner at NRZ where he earns US$400 and retired from the Airforce of Zimbabwe where he receives at least US$260 pension,” she said.
“I know he has another child, but my child wants to go to crèche where US$55 is required monthly. I seek this court’s order him to take care of his child.”
In his defence, Chipunza said he was willing to pay the money, but had not received his salary.
“I last received my salary in November and I earn US$309, while the AFZ gives me US$220. I have four other children and I have been giving her US$70 all this time.
“If I was receiving my salary from work I could have given her the money. If it is possible I want the money garnished from my salary such that we do not come to the courts again.”
Magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti ordered Chipunza to pay the US$80 maintenance.
