NRZ runs Mother’s Day train

Sindisiwe Sibanda, Sunday News Reporter

THE National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) yesterday ran a thrilling 200-kilometre steam train leisure trip from Bulawayo to Plumtree Town and back to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Although the train service was run yesterday, Mother’s Day is celebrated every second Sunday of May. NRZ business and passenger services manager Mr Aaron Mahachi said the initiative was part of the company to give back to the community and appreciate the role played by mothers in the country.

“We ran a train in Harare and we are doing it for Bulawayo with plans to introducing more runs in Victoria Falls and Hwange. We have noted that we have more train enthusiasts and that other people have never been on a train. We have been running locomotive steam train for special occasions like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Father’s Day. We are yet to increase and maybe run a steam train after every two months,” said Mr Mahachi.
