NRZ public relations officer Mr Fanuel Masikati said the steam safari train service was aimed at promoting rail leisure and to boost the tourism industry ahead of the United Nations World Tourism General Assembly in August.
“More steam safari trains are earmarked to be run this year as the nation prepares to host the UNWTO assembly,” he said.
Zimbabwe is one of the few remaining countries in the world which still owns steam locomotives.
Mr Masikati said an age defying steam locomotive would be hauling the Valentine Sashay Steam Safari train, which would be using luxurious museum coaches.
“This is a special service not to be missed by those intending to experience the comfort of rail leisure travel in a special way, while celebrating Valentine’s Day with loved ones and partners,” he said.
“The service is meant to bring a Valentine’s mood for our special guests wishing to enjoy the comfort of rail leisure train travel,” said Mr Masikati.
Mr Masikati said the railway company was committed to provide different kinds of service to its customers.
The fare for the train would be US$75
per a couple and US$40 for a single adult person and includes a candle-lit dinner and drinks that would be served at the Railway Museum.
The NRZ ran similar services for Valentine’s and Father’s Day last year. – New Ziana.
